The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index, an indicator that monitors rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, softened for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. It decreased by approximately 1.9%, reaching its lowest level since August 22, at 1,986 points, due to diminished demand across all vessel categories. The capesize index, commonly used for transporting 150,000-ton shipments of materials like iron ore and coal, dropped by 75 points to 2,874 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which typically handles 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw a decline of 2.7%, settling at 1,764 points. Among the smaller vessel categories, the supramax index ended its 20-session winning streak, dipping by 1 point to 1,466 points.
