China's automotive sector saw a significant rise in vehicle sales, climbing by 16.4% year-over-year to a total of 2.855 million units in August 2025. This follows a 14.7% increase in July, as reported by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). The sale of new energy vehicles (NEVs) experienced a notable year-over-year surge of 26.8%. Over the first eight months of 2025, there was a 12.6% overall increase in vehicle sales, with NEV sales witnessing an impressive 36.7% rise. The CAAM had previously projected a 4.7% annual increase in total vehicle sales for 2025, amounting to 32.9 million units, with NEV sales anticipated to climb by 24.4% to reach 16 million units. In comparison, total vehicle sales in 2024 rose by 4.5% to 31.436 million units, indicating a considerable deceleration from the 12% growth observed in 2023.
