Senegal experienced a slight reduction in its annual inflation rate, which dropped to 2.8% in December 2025, down from the previous month's peak of 2.9%, the highest in 20 months. This deceleration was primarily due to a decrease in food inflation, which eased to 4.5% from November's 5.0%, the fastest rate of increase since March 2024. Additionally, inflation showed signs of moderation across several sectors: transport saw a reduction to 1.4% from 2.9%, furnishings declined to 2.5% from 3.3%, and healthcare fell to 1.5% from 2.3%. Inflation rates remained stable for clothing and footwear at 0.6%, as well as for restaurants at 3.0%. In contrast, there was a slight increase in inflation related to housing and utilities, which rose to 1.2% from 1.0%, and in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which jumped to 17.2% from 15.9%. On the other hand, the information and communication sector continued to see price declines, although at a reduced rate of -1.7% compared to -3.6% previously. When excluding energy and fresh products, the core inflation index increased year-over-year by 4.1%, down from a 4.7% rise reported in November. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.9% in December following a 0.1% reduction in November, marking the sharpest monthly drop in the past 13 months.
