Bulgaria’s trade deficit widened to EUR 1,046.0 million in January 2026, up from EUR 992.3 million in the same month a year earlier, as exports declined while imports remained broadly stable. Exports fell by 1.4% year-on-year to EUR 3,327.0 million, reflecting a sharp drop in sales to non-EU markets (-9.0%), despite a 2.3% increase in shipments to EU member states. At the same time, imports inched up by 0.1% to EUR 4,373.0 million, as higher purchases from non-EU countries (5.3%) more than offset a 4.0% decrease in imports from the EU.
