Macau’s economy grew by 7.1% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, moderating from the 7.6% expansion recorded in the same period of 2025, according to preliminary estimates. Despite this slight slowdown, it was the fourth consecutive quarter of growth, driven chiefly by a strong rise in exports of services, underpinned by a surge in visitor arrivals during the Lunar New Year holidays and a series of major festive events. Domestically, private consumption expenditure remained robust, increasing by 2.8% year-on-year. In contrast, government spending fell by 4.8%, and gross fixed capital formation contracted sharply by 21.9%.
