The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks shipping rates for vessels carrying dry bulk commodities, edged up 0.2% to 3,195 points, its highest level since December 5. The Panamax index, reflecting rates for ships that typically carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2% to 2,503 points, while the Supramax index added 0.3% to reach 1,558 points. By contrast, the Capesize index, which covers larger vessels that usually transport about 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, slipped 0.5% to 5,316 points.
