Wholesale sales in Canada rose 0.6% month-over-month to C$89.3 billion in April 2026, according to revised data that upgraded the initial estimate of 0.1% growth. The increase marked the sector’s third consecutive monthly gain. These figures exclude wholesale sales of petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons, which jumped 7.2% over the same period, driven by higher fuel prices as the ongoing war in the Middle East continued to disrupt energy exports from the region.
By category, sales advanced solidly for building materials and supplies (up 4.3% to C$12.7 billion), miscellaneous goods (up 1.4% to C$11.5 billion), motor vehicles and parts (up 0.9% to C$14.7 billion), and personal and household goods (up 0.5% to C$13.2 billion). In contrast, sales declined for food and beverage (down 1.4% to C$16.2 billion) and for machinery and equipment (down 1.2% to C$19.3 billion).
