Russia’s industrial production fell by 0.7% year-on-year in May 2026, reversing a 1.9% increase in April. The downturn was driven primarily by mining, where output contracted by 2.7%, deepening from a 0.4% decline in the previous month. Activity also weakened markedly in utilities: production in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning fell by 2.2%, after a 0.9% rise in April, while the water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation sector saw output shrink by 3.4%, compared with a 0.9% increase previously. Manufacturing growth slowed significantly, with output rising just 0.5% year-on-year, down from 3.1% in April. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall industrial production decreased by 0.8% in May, following a 0.3% increase in the preceding month.
