The unemployment rate in Hungary was 4.3% in the March–May 2026 period, unchanged from the same period a year earlier. The number of unemployed fell by 3.5 thousand year-on-year, to 208 thousand. Of these, 109 thousand were men, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 4.2%, and 99 thousand were women, with a rate of 4.4%.

The average job search duration was 13.3 months. Among the unemployed, 31.7% had been seeking work for less than three months, and 31.4% had been looking for a job for 4–11 months. The share of those unemployed for more than a year rose by 3.7 percentage points, to 36.9%.

At the same time, the number of employed persons declined by 33 thousand year-on-year, to 4.640 million. Employment among men remained stable at 2.248 million, while female employment fell by 34 thousand, to 2.161 million.
