Speculative sentiment toward the Australian dollar improved modestly, with traders reducing their net short exposure, according to the latest Commitments of Traders data released on 11 September 2026.
CFTC figures show AUD speculative net positions rising from -39.4K contracts previously to -34.9K, indicating that bearish bets against the currency have eased. While positioning remains in net short territory, the shift suggests a slight softening of negative sentiment toward the Australian dollar among speculative investors.
The moderation in net shorts may signal growing caution among traders about further downside in the AUD, or early repositioning ahead of potential changes in Australia’s macroeconomic backdrop or global risk appetite. However, with net positioning still negative, markets continue to lean on the bearish side for the Australian currency.
