Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China continued to contract in August 2026, but the pace of decline eased compared with the previous month, according to the latest data updated on 18 September 2026. The FDI indicator stood at -5.30% in August, an improvement from -6.20% recorded in July 2026.
The narrower fall suggests that while foreign investment into China remains under pressure, the intensity of the downturn has moderated slightly. Investors and policymakers are likely to watch coming months’ figures closely to see whether August marks the beginning of a stabilisation trend in capital inflows or merely a temporary slowing in the decline.
