Trump sued over service selling millisecond early access to Truth Social posts

Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit over an attempt to monetize the speed of his posts. The Intercept and the non‑profit Freedom of the Press Foundation have gone to court seeking to block a new service from Trump Media & Technology Group, calling it “extraordinary and corrupt.”

The dispute centers on the launch of a premium service called Truth API. For $60–100,000 a month, the subscription delivers messages from popular Truth Social accounts several milliseconds earlier than regular users. The company explicitly highlighted the tool’s financial benefit in marketing materials, showing clients ten presidential posts that had triggered sharp market swings. Trump remains the largest shareholder in Trump Media: his roughly $1 billion stake is held in a trust managed by Donald Trump Jr.

The initiative has irritated Wall Street, where sub‑second advantages are critical for high‑frequency trading algorithms. Hedge‑fund managers interviewed by journalists call the service a blatant abuse of power, though they admit they may be forced to buy subscriptions because of their fiduciary duties to clients.

Lawyers are already questioning the business model’s legality. Former White House ethics adviser Richard Painter warned investors of the risks of buying Truth API without guarantees that official government decisions will not be leaked in advance through the service. Duke University law professor James Cox emphasized that the president has no right to commercialize information he produces in the course of performing his official duties.
