Malta's annual retail price inflation eased in August, a report by the National Statistics Office showed on Monday.

The retail price index rose 1.53% year-on-year in August, but slower than a 1.63% growth in the previous month.

Food prices grew 2.64% annually in August, while clothing and footwear prices slipped 9.23%. Housing prices climbed 1.99%. Transport and communication charges fell 0.77%. Personal care and health costs rose 1.56%.

On a monthly basis, retail prices slipped 0.11% in August, compared to a 0.14% fall in the preceding month. Food prices rose 1.32% and beverages & tobacco prices fell 0.11%. Transport and communication charges grew 0.46%.

The twelve-month moving average rate of inflation was 0.75% in August, the statistical office said.
