The Sri Lankan economy expanded 6.3% year-on-year in the third quarter, the Department of Census and Statistics said Tuesday. Economic growth eased from 7% reported in the second quarter of 2008 as well as in the third quarter of 2007.
The service sector that contributes 59% of GDP grew 5.5% annually in the third quarter, slower than the 7.4% growth in the same quarter of last year. Growth in industry, which make up 28.2% of the economy eased to 5.6% from 7.5%. Meanwhile, the agriculture sector showed an annual growth of 12.4%.
