Estonia's foreign trade gap widened in July from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, figures from Statistics Estonia showed Monday.

The trade deficit rose to EUR 197 million from EUR 153 million in the corresponding month last year. In June, the shortfall was EUR 120 million.

Exports climbed 6.0 percent year-over-year in July and imports expanded by 9.0 percent.

Shipments to EU countries grew 5.0 percent annually in July and those to non-EU countries advanced by 6.0 percent.

In July, the main commodities imported to Estonia were electrical equipment, transport equipment, and agricultural products and food preparations.
