Taiwan's foreign trade surplus decreased in June from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, preliminary data from the Ministry of Finance revealed Monday.
The trade surplus dropped to $5.21 billion in June from $5.85 billion in the corresponding month last year. The expected surplus for the month was $5.18 billion.
However, the surplus increased from $4.41 billion in May.
Exports advanced 9.4 percent year-over-year in June, slower than the expected spike of 11.4 percent.
Imports registered a double-digit growth of 15.4 percent yearly in June, but below economists' forecast for an expansion of 16.9 percent.
