At 5.00 am ET Friday, Eurostat publishes euro area trade figures. The trade surplus is expected to decrease to a seasonally adjusted EUR 16.2 billion in July from EUR 16.7 billion in June.

Ahead of the data, the euro traded mixed against its major rivals. While the euro rose against the greenback and the yen, it retreated against the pound and the franc.

The euro was worth 130.93 against the yen, 1.1288 against the franc, 0.8915 against the pound and 1.1706 against the greenback as of 4:55 am ET.
