Hungary's industrial production growth improved in December, after slowing in the previous month, data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed on Wednesday.

Industrial production grew a non-adjusted 5.4 percent year-on-year in December after a 4.0 percent rise in November. The final growth rate was unchanged from the first estimate.

In October, production climbed 6 percent after a slump in the previous month.

After working-day adjustments, production rose by 5.7 percent year-on-year in December after a 3.7 percent gain in the previous month. The pace of growth was the fastest since the start of the year.

Manufacturing output rose 5 percent year-on-year after a 4.1 percent increase in November. Mining and quarrying output jumped 38 percent and energy output increased 3.6 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the industrial production rose 2.5 percent in December after a 1.1 percent fall in the prior month. That was the strongest growth in four months.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products and transport equipment rose strongly in December. Production of food products, beverages and tobacco were also higher than a year earlier.

In 2018, industrial production rose 3.6 percent after 4.6 percent growth in 2017.
