Hong Kong's visitor arrivals surged in July, a report by the Tourism Board showed on Thursday. The number of visitor arrivals totaled a record high of 3.14 million in July, which was an increase of 31.9% compared to the previous year.

The growth in overall arrivals was led by Mainland China, the arrivals from which rose 40% to more than 2 million. These significant growth was driven by the implementation of Individual Visit Scheme measures in Shenzhen, the board said.

Visitor arrivals from Americas increased 10.6% annually to 150,305 in July, while the visitors from Europe, Africa and the Middle East grew 10.7% to 171,506. Visitors from Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific rose 10.3% to 62,209. Visitor arrivals from Taiwan increased 10.4%.

For the January to July period, visitor arrivals rose 24.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. The total number of visitor arrivals reached 19.99 million.
