Tuesday in early deals, the Indian rupee plunged to near a 6-week low against the U.S. dollar on weak stocks.

The Indian stock market opened lower today on weak global cues amid doubts about the sustainability of global economic recovery

India's benchmark BSE Sensex is currently down nearly 95.83 points or 0.53% at 17,934.10 and the National Stock Exchange's S&P CNX Nifty is drifting lower by 29.90 points or 0.55% to 5,385.20.

The rupee is currently worth 47.08 per dollar and if the Indian currency falls further, it may likely target the 47.44 level.
