Total guest nights in accommodation establishments across New Zealand inched up 0.2% in July compared to the same month a year ago, Statistics New Zealand said on Monday.
International guest nights were up 2%, while domestic guest nights were down 1%.
Hotels were the only accommodation type to record an increase, rising 4%. Guest nights in motels, backpackers, and holiday parks, each fell 2%.
The Bay of Plenty had the biggest increase in guest nights in July, with the 12% rise largely driven by domestic guest nights. Taranaki / Manawatu-Wanganui had the biggest decrease in guest nights, down 9%.
