Production in Geek construction industry declined 18.3% annually during the second quarter, slower than the 21.4% annual drop in the first quarter, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said Monday.

Construction output has been declining since the third quarter of 2008. Annually, production in building construction fell 20.2% and in civil engineering dropped 17.3%.

However, compared to the first quarter, construction output surged 30.2% in the second quarter, rebounding from a 34.6% slump in the first quarter. On a quarterly basis, the production index for building construction climbed 16.3% and for civil engineering rose 39.5%.
