Iceland's jobless rate dropped in August from the previous month.
The jobless rate was 7.3% or an average of 12,096 in August, the Directorate of Labor said on Monday. In July, the jobless rate was 7.5% or 12,569 persons on average.
The unemployment rate in the capital area was 8.3%, while that of in the rural area was 5.5%. The jobless rate was 4.9% in the South Iceland.
The number of open vacancies was 371 at the end of August, smaller than 387 open vacancies in the previous month.
The Directorate of Labor's forecast is that unemployment will decrease in September and will be between 6.9% and 7.3%. In September 2009, the jobless rate was 7.2%.
