US shares were mixed on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones logging new record close, following the Federal Reserve moved to hike interest rates anew, the second increase for 2017.
The Fed raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points and retained its rate projection for this year. It also spelled out measures on slashing their balance sheet amounting to $4.5 trillion.
The Dow closed around 45 points higher after its swift decline, closing at 21,374.56. The S&P 500 tumbled 0.1%, standing at 2,437.92, as energy and materials stocks lost over 1% on slumping crude prices. The Nasdaq decreased 0.4%, ending at 6,194.89.
The technology sector dropped 0.5%, recuperating from steeper losses and coming on the heels of its largest two-day swoon in almost a year. Tech remains up 18% this year.
