Switzerland's current account surplus for the first quarter increased from the same period last year, figures from the Swiss National Bank showed Monday.
The current account surplus rose to CHF 17.93 billion from CHF 17.21 billion in the same period last year. In the fourth quarter of 2013, the surplus was CHF 22.0 billion.
The goods and services surplus expanded to CHF 16.7 billion in the first quarter from CHF 12.8 billion a year ago. In the final three months of 2013, the surplus was CHF 18.7 billion.
The surplus in the primary income account, meanwhile, shrunk to CHF 5.37 billion from CHF 9.30 billion a year ago.
