South Africa's business sentiment improved in September, monthly survey from the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry showed on Wednesday.
The business confidence index rose to 92.4 in September from 89.1 in the previous month. The August reading was the lowest in more than three decades.
The business lobby said the indicator suggests that the economy may have hit a trough.
The economy had escaped a recession in the second quarter as gross domestic product grew 3.1 percent after shrinking 3.1 percent in the first quarter.
