South Korea's unemployment rate increased in September, figures from Statistics Korea showed on Wednesday.
The jobless rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 3.4 percent in September from 3.1 percent a month ago. Economists had expected the rate to rise to 3.3 percent.
On an unadjusted basis, the jobless rate climbed marginally to 3.1 percent from 3.0 percent in August. In the same period last year, the unemployment rate was 3.6 percent.
The number of unemployed persons fell to 884,000 from 1.02 million last year.
At the same time, the number of employed persons rose to 27.40 million in September from 27.05 million in the same month last year. In August, employed persons totaled 27.35 million.
