The United States economy expanded at an annual rate of 3.3% during the second quarter of 2025, marking a significant recovery from the 0.5% decline witnessed in the first quarter, as per the latest revised estimates. This figure was adjusted upwards from the preliminary estimate of 3%, primarily due to more robust consumer spending, which rose to 1.6% from the initially reported 1.4%, and a notable increase in investment, which climbed to 5.7% from 1.9%. This positive trend was slightly tempered by a decrease in government spending, down to -0.2% from 0.4%, and an increase in imports, which adjusted to -29.8% from -30.3%. The growth was largely supported by vigorous household expenditure, which surged to 1.6% compared to 0.5% in the previous quarter, along with a reduction in imports, improving from -29.8% to a more favorable level. Despite these gains, further progress was hindered by a downturn in business investment, which fell from 10.3% to 5.7%, and a decrease in exports, declining to -1.3% from a modest growth of 0.4%.
