Japan's consumer confidence index climbed to 34.9 in August 2025, up from 33.7 in July. This represents the highest level since January, with all primary components of the index experiencing gains. The assessment of consumers' overall livelihood increased to 32.7 from the prior month’s 31.4, reflecting a more optimistic perspective on daily living conditions. Expectations for income growth also saw an improvement, rising to 39.4 from 38.5, while the employment outlook strengthened, moving up to 39.3 from 37.6. This suggests growing confidence in job security and prospects. Additionally, households' willingness to purchase durable goods, which indicates spending intentions, slightly increased to 28 from 27.4, hinting at a cautious yet positive approach towards making larger, long-term purchases.
