Russia’s unemployment rate declined to 2.1% in February 2026 from 2.2% in January, matching the lowest level on record. This development extends the trend of a tightening labor market that has persisted since the pandemic shock of 2020. At the same time, the war in Ukraine and the Kremlin’s mobilization of working-age men have contributed to an exodus from the labor force.
