The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, climbed for a ninth straight session on Wednesday, jumping 5.5% to 2,484 points—its highest level since early December 2025.
The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also rose for the ninth consecutive day, surging about 8% to 3,964 points, its strongest reading since mid-December 2025.
The panamax index, reflecting rates for vessels that generally transport 60,000–70,000 tons of coal or grain, gained 2.5% to 1,948 points, its highest level in more than three weeks and its tenth straight daily increase.
Among smaller segments, the supramax index advanced 2% to 1,371 points.
