Italy’s trade surplus widened to €4.9 billion in February 2026, up from €4.4 billion in the same month a year earlier and significantly above market expectations of €3.8 billion. On an annual basis, exports slipped by 0.2% in February, while imports fell by 1.3%.
Trade with European Union partners recorded a deficit of €652 million, compared with a €383 million shortfall in February of the previous year. Exports to EU countries declined by 2.9%, exceeding the 2.0% decrease in imports.
