The FTSE 100 edged lower on Friday, though the index remains effectively flat for a seventh consecutive session, with movements confined to a tight range as sentiment stays cautious. Investors are awaiting greater clarity on a possible US–Iran peace agreement after President Donald Trump said Tehran had made key concessions and that a deal could be announced fairly soon, though Iran has not confirmed this. SSE and Centrica each fell more than 5%, leading the declines amid worries about proposals to decouple gas and electricity prices and the potential impact on earnings. Beyond utilities, weakness also extended to financials, energy and materials, with most names in those sectors trading in negative territory.
