Japan’s annual inflation rate edged up to 1.5% in March 2026, from February’s nearly four-year low of 1.3%. Core inflation also picked up, rising to 1.8% from 1.6% in February, although it stayed below the central bank’s 2% target for the second consecutive month. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) climbed 0.4% in March, reversing a cumulative 0.2% decline over the previous two months and registering its fastest increase since January 2025.
