According to preliminary estimates, Ireland’s EU-harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose by 3.6% year-on-year in April 2026, unchanged from March. Energy prices accelerated sharply, increasing by 15.5% compared with 12.3% in the previous month, driven mainly by recent developments in the Middle East. By contrast, food price inflation eased slightly, rising 2% after a 2.3% increase in March, while services inflation also moderated to 2.9% from 3.3%. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, harmonised inflation is estimated to have slowed to 2.3% from 2.6%. On a monthly basis, harmonised consumer prices rose 0.4% in April, down from a 1.8% increase in the preceding month.
