Japan’s consumer confidence index fell to 32.2 in April 2026 from 33.3 in March, coming in below market expectations of 33.1. This was the weakest reading since April 2025. Nearly all components deteriorated: assessments of overall livelihood declined to 28.2 from 29.7, the employment outlook slipped to 37.4 from 37.6, and willingness to purchase durable goods dropped to 23.2 from 26.0. In contrast, views on income growth were unchanged at 39.8.
