Hungary’s economy showed stronger momentum at the start of 2026, with gross domestic product expanding by 1.7% year-over-year in the first quarter, up from 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025. The latest figure, updated on 30 April 2026, indicates that growth has more than doubled compared with the previous quarter’s annual pace.
Both readings are based on year-over-year comparisons: the current 1.7% reflects GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026 versus the same period a year earlier, while the earlier 0.8% captured the change in the fourth quarter of 2025 relative to the fourth quarter of the prior year. The improvement suggests a gradual firming in Hungary’s economic performance as it moves further into 2026.
