The US PCE price index rose 0.7% month-over-month, in line with expectations and up from February’s 0.4% increase. This was the largest monthly gain in PCE prices since June 2022. Goods prices climbed 1.4%, driven largely by a 20.9% surge in gasoline and other energy products. Services inflation also picked up, rising to 0.3% from 0.2%, mainly reflecting higher transportation service costs. The core PCE index, which excludes food and energy, increased 0.3% after a 0.4% rise in February. On an annual basis, the headline PCE index reached 3.5%, while the core measure rose to 3.2%.
