Botswana’s consumer price dynamics saw a sharp acceleration in April 2026, with the country’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 6.7% month-over-month, up from a 0.4% increase recorded in March 2026. The latest data, updated on 13 May 2026, point to a significant pick-up in price pressures over a single month.
On a month-over-month basis, the April reading reflects a much steeper pace of price growth compared with March, when the CPI had inched up only marginally. The comparison framework shows that the “actual” figure refers to April’s change versus March, while the “previous” figure captures March’s change against February.
The surge in the April CPI suggests that inflationary momentum strengthened notably at the start of the second quarter, potentially signaling emerging cost pressures that policymakers, businesses and consumers in Botswana will be watching closely in the months ahead./body
