Corporate profits in Canada continued to deteriorate in the latest quarter, with the indicator declining by 2.0% quarter-over-quarter, according to data updated on 25 May 2026. This marks a deeper contraction than in the previous quarter, when profits fell by 1.6% compared with the quarter before.
The quarter-over-quarter comparison highlights an acceleration in profit weakness, as companies are now facing a steeper decline in earnings than earlier in the year. With the current quarter’s drop of 2.0% following the prior quarter’s 1.6% decrease, the data suggest mounting pressure on Canadian corporates, potentially reflecting a more challenging operating environment.
