Russia’s unemployment rate held steady at 2.2% in April 2026, unchanged from the previous month and matching market expectations. The persistently tight labor market reflects a broad-based labor shortage across all sectors, driven by military mobilization and expanded defense industry recruitment following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, as well as by ongoing emigration.
