2026.06.2310:15:44UTC+00Mauritius Industrial Output Growth Accelerates

Industrial production in Mauritius rose by 1.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, marking a third consecutive quarter of expansion and edging up from an upwardly revised 1.5% increase in the final quarter of 2025. Growth was broad-based across most sub-sectors, led by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+8.8%), followed by water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+2.3%), and manufacturing (+1.0%). In contrast, output in mining and quarrying declined by 2.3%.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, however, industrial production fell 18.2%, mainly reflecting sharp contractions in manufacturing (-22.8%) and mining and quarrying (-20.6%). These declines were partially offset by strong gains in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+25.7%) and in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+2.6%).
