The benchmark KOSPI advanced 0.97% to close at 6,756 on Monday, partially reversing the previous session’s losses as optimism over major AI collaboration agreements lifted technology shares. Sentiment improved after South Korean companies unveiled a series of AI partnerships with global tech giants totaling roughly $950 billion in project value. The announcements were led by a $750 billion long-term semiconductor supply agreement between SK Group and Nvidia, alongside Nvidia’s $1 billion investment in Naver.
Blue-chip chipmakers spearheaded the rally, with Samsung Electronics climbing 2.00% and SK Hynix gaining 3.47%. Other notable movers included Naver (+8.92%), LG Energy Solution (+1.37%), and Shinhan Financial Group (+1.05%). Adding to the risk-on tone, easing geopolitical tensions also underpinned the market after the United States paused airstrikes on Iran over the weekend, pushing oil prices sharply lower.
