Hong Kong’s imports surged 45.5% year-on-year to USD 693 billion in June 2026, accelerating from a 42% increase in May. This was the fastest pace of import growth since February 1992, driven mainly by robust demand for electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances and parts (+54.2%); telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing equipment (+67.3%); and office machines and automatic data processing equipment (+53.6%).
By origin, imports from major suppliers recorded particularly sharp gains, led by Korea (+176.7%), Vietnam (+106.8%), India (+95.4%), Malaysia (+62.4%), and Mainland China (+41.0%).
Over the first half of 2026, total imports were up 40.6% from a year earlier, supported by significantly higher inflows of non-ferrous metals (+197.8%), telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing equipment (+71.5%), and electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances and parts (+47.0%).
