Germany’s retail sales fell 1.1% month-on-month in June 2026, reversing a marginally revised 1.2% increase in May and coming in weaker than market expectations for a 0.5% decline. This was the steepest monthly drop since May 2025, underscoring softer consumer spending amid ongoing economic uncertainty. Food sales decreased by 1.4%, while non-food sales were down 1.0%. By contrast, online and mail-order sales edged up 0.4%, pointing to continued resilience in e-commerce demand. On a year-on-year basis, retail sales slipped 0.2%, after a revised 2.1% gain in May, marking the second annual decline so far this year.
