Justice Department sues Google over illegal monopoly

The US authorities have issued an antitrust lawsuit against Google because the company appears to be incredibly popular among ordinary users. According to the Justice Department, Google is "unlawfully maintaining monopolies in the markets for general search services, search advertising, and general search text advertising in the United States."

The Justice Department claims that the tech-giant takes advantage of its dominance in the market. This became the reason for another litigation. State prosecutors are now trying to prove that Google has entered into a series of exclusionary agreements that drive out competitors from the market. In addition, there is information that the tech industry heavyweight pays the leading smartphone manufacturers and providers of service and Internet browsers for the installation of Google as the default search engine. This primarily involves the pre-installing of the Google Search app on all Android devices. The Justice Department intends to stand up for the rights of consumers and advertisers by prohibiting the monopolist from limiting their choice.

Google has already issued a response to the department’s accusations that says: "Today's lawsuit by the Department of Justice is deeply flawed. People use Google because they choose to, not because they're forced to, or because they can't find alternatives."
