Lithuania's consumer price inflation continued to increase in July.
The consumer price index, or CPI, rose 1.9% year-on-year in July, faster than a 1% growth in the previous month, a report by the Statistics Lithuania showed on Monday. Consumer prices increased for the fourth consecutive month. A year earlier, the CPI increased 3%.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 0.2% annually in July, while clothing and footwear prices fell 5.1%. Housing, water, electricity,gas and other fuels prices grew 7.1%. Transport charges rose 6.3%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI remained unchanged for the second straight month in July. The CPI increased 0.2% in May. Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices slipped 0.1%, while clothing and footwear prices fell 4%. Health charges rose 0.2% and communication charges fell 0.4%. Hotels, cafes and restaurant prices rose 0.1%.
Lithuanian economy returned to growth in the second quarter after suffering contractions throughout last year and early this year. The gross domestic product grew 1.1% annually in the second quarter compared to a 2.8% decline in the first quarter.
