South African wholesale trade sales at constant prices increased 2.6% year-on-year in June, the statistical office said Wednesday.

In nominal terms, wholesale trade sales grew 9.7% from last year. Significant gains were recorded for wholesale trade in 'precious stones, jewelery and silverware', 'solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products' and 'metals and metal ores', the agency said.

During the second quarter, sales at constant prices grew 2.5% year-on-year compared to a 12.4% slump in the same period last year. On a seasonally adjusted basis, wholesale trade sales at constant prices rose 2.7% from the first quarter
