Chilean consumer prices rose 2.6% on an annual basis in August, faster than a 2.3% rise in the previous month, the National Institute of Statistics said on Wednesday. Economists were looking for an increase of 2.8%.
Month-on-month, the consumer price index dropped 0.1% in August, compared to a 0.6% increase in the previous month. Economists had expected an increase of 0.2%. For the first eight months of the year, the cumulative increase in the CPI was 2.3%.
The core consumer price index, that excludes perishables and fuels rose 0.1% on a monthly basis in August, but slower than a 0.2% rise expected by economists'.
