• US GE 775mn pound takeover approach of Wellstream has been rebuffed by British oil services company

• Samsung Electronics sold above 5 mn Galaxy S smartphone handsets since the June launch.

• Japan's Nikkei hit a 2 month high rising 1.8 pct due to BOJ interest rate cut the day before

• European shares were up 0.8 pct in morning trade which can lead to further monetary stimulus

•  

  Dollar neared eight-month lows on the euro and edged towards a 15-year trough on the yen on Wednesday

• Dow Jones industrial average was up 193.45 points, or 1.8 pct, to 10,944.72. 

• S&P's 500 Index rose 23.72 points, or 2.1 pct, to 1,160.75.

• Nasdaq Composite Index rose 55.31 points, or 2.4 pct to 2,399.83.
